The fact that the leaked document posted by the Mail actually shows that it was a work meeting. This just proves how desperate they were to find dirt that they didn’t appreciate the meaning of the document.

This is not an original response to that claim but the Dictionary of Theatre* defines a character as ‘something that gives the illusion of being a person’, and in that sense I think your description is apt.

*Supposedly, according to Stewart Lee. But even if it doesn’t, as we’re talking about Boris Johnson it’d just add a meta-textual element to the joke.
