I think what we have seen recently with Tony Smith proves that it's not necessarily about who is in charge but the resources at their disposal. For years a lot of FC fans were crying out for an experienced coach to come in instead of assistants. We got that in Smith and it hasn't worked. But can we honestly say that Smith has had full resources? Cap spend has been questionable because whether we are spending full cap or not, it certainly hasn't been value for money. Meanwhile our backroom staff has been depleted and we're waiting on these new training facilities to be completed.
So I don't think it matters about someone's track record as such. What is important is that whoever they identify to take us forward gets everything they need from the club put at their disposal to achieve their goals. I'm liking what has been said since last week by both Pearson and now Myler suggesting that will be the case.
I dont think it was all about resources.
Smith failed miserably as a coach
Failed to get the squad supremely fit to help make up for the lack of quality on the field
Failed to implement a defensive strategy to make us difficult to beat knowing we dont have the strike to score many tries
Failed to clamp down on the on field indicipline which was bad in his first season but even worse this season.
I agree we didnt have enough quality players in the squad but he was the one who continued to play two nines in the halfs when we all could see it wasnt working, and continually flogging Houghton for near 80 minutues knowing he had a hamstring problem as though Houghton was the answer to our prayers and would turn our season around.
I cant see Grix been our future coach but even he cannot do any worse than Smith
