As a last line of defence i`d take Luke Patten over Brett Hodgson, as well as being good in defence Patten joins the line well and is hard to put down and he should way in with a few tries at Salford if he gets some decent service. Its a quality signing for them, another signing or 2 like that and next year i'd tip them for the play-offs.

They won't be able to afford 2 more signings of his quality, he is a class act. They probably need another back rower and a centre but seeing as they kept holdsworth they will do a lot better next year. Anybody know if they are keeping hold of ratchford?

Ratchford has another year on his contract. He has missed quite a bit of this season through injury, and for large parts has been played out of position, in the centres. So he's not had his best season, & hopefully that will be enough to keep the big clubs away, because we're building quite a good, young squad, who want to play for Salford. This along with the signing of Patten and Holdsworth extending his contract, things seem to be looking quite good for us (as long as we manage to get another franchise) oh and the new stadium of course.

As good as Patten is, he isn't the style of fullback Smith has been looking at utilising. Both Hodgson and Mathers play as a pivot coming into the line, especially so on the last couple of tackles.

They're quietly putting together a nice little side there, if they keep the likes of Adamson, Broughton, Ratchford they'll be fine.
