BP1:Yippee try yay:
Reserves beat Rovers easily 28-12 final score, trailist winger did okay (Rampton i think he was called) scored a really good try from about 80 meters.
There's a few players in there clearly too good for that level and could do with some time in the championship on loan (Charles, Moy, Hutchinson) expected a lot closer game after seeing the teams but Hull made short work of it.
Back in the days, before RU went professional, it used to be fairly commonplace for League sides to line up with a Union trialist, usually listed on the team sheet as A.Trialist or A.N.Other!!!
Recall Kevin James doing so, from Welsh RU, and scoring a couple of belting long range tries at Boulevard (around 83/84 I guess?). A powerful pacy winger, injuries hampered him from fully becoming an excellent player, but he did score the opener at Wembley in '85. Wonder what might have been for him if not for injuries.
Think union is definitely an underutilised market for RL especially as we struggle a lot as a club to produce young players with size especially in the forwards, I remember seeing a few 'A' team games years ago with A trialist on the teamsheet.
I remember a few coming from that background think we had a lad called Lawrence Pearce play reserves for us from union, we actually signed Tom Biggs a few years ago but he never played for us and obviously Ratu was box office for us along with Vulikijapani.
Wigan signing Christian Wade may suggest there's a few clubs thinking along those lines too.
