Not the impression I got when talking to the high ups, JUST THE ONCE!
I got the impression that WP was very popular throughout the club. I think it's far more basic than that, I think the BOD's liked him a lot as did the players but that doesn't make you a good coach. Me personally I just don't think WP had that ruthless edge or attention to detail that sets you apart. I think he could have carried on and probably saved us from relegation year after year.
However we need to be brave if we are ever going to raise back up, even if we do attract investors, it will take a special person to change the culture of the club.
This is why they didn't retain WP as they didn't think he had that ability IMHO, and took a big leap in a different direction.
Technically Mash has it all, he is the RL equivalent of an Oxford Don in terms of the theory of RL, he has all the badges believe. His attention to detail is I'm told phenomenal. His work ethic is again legendary. His inter personal skills are again considered top notch, honest, direct but with no attempt to hide the truth. You either fit or you don't, yet somehow this hasn't made him especially unpopular, quite an achievement.
What he's missing is a coaching CV but then so was Poching and a fair few other coaches who've done rather well.
