I think the only reason Smith didn't go with a captain last year was because he was very certain he didn't want Leeming to be the captain but also thought that giving it to someone else would be too much of an obvious slap in Leeming's face which might cause a bit of unrest/make life difficult for the new bloke. So he came up with this fudge of a leadership group.
Now the Leeming problem has gone away he can give it to the person he always felt should have had the role.

Nail on head! Smith ended up being captain for 90% of games anyway. Clearly was always going to be him.
not saying you're wrong but smith had the backbone to continually leave leeming out and then let him go so can't see him not changing the captain in case he hurt his feelings! plenty of coaches have changed captaining the past. anyhow, good decision for me.
Hopefully he will take a more active roll as captain on the field this year. At times we seemed to miss leadership last season, especially when we were behind. We missed the type of captain that reorganised and motivated the team whilst stood behind the posts after a conceded try.
I think Cam has got it in him to be a great leader, and this is obviously the correct choice.
The obvious choice from our current squad. You would expect based on their experience that Ackers Frawley and Croft will add leadership and direction on the field as well. Mind in theory that should have come from Austin and Sezer the last 2 years.
