My understanding is that if you can't prove who you are and which country you are fleeing persecution then, you will not be granted asylum.

Seeing that 70% of asylum seekers are granted leave to remain then your claim that only 2% have i.d. looks to be incorrect.

Your understanding is way off ,the reason they destroy their ID is to aid their asylum application ,so they can just completely lie about who they are ,where they're from and especially their age ,you do not need ID to claim asylum

I don't think debating with someone with such an obvious and odious agenda serves any of us any good.

You wouldn't know where Lampedusa is on a map still less have been there or know any of the issues involved. No you're just looking for an excuse to become, again, a frothing red-faced mass of fury.
