Don't think he has been given enough gametime to prove what he can do.
Agree to an extent. It was a frustration to me that he wasn't getting any time and we was overplaying Amir for 80 minutes every week instead. But now I ask myself why he wasn't getting any game time? Might be the simple fact Cartwright doesn't rate him that highly. He should have come on last night and really injected some pace and energy into our attack. Instead he made errors with 2 of his first touches of the game and finished with 2 carries for 1 metre.A poor one off game? Yeah most probably. 95% of the team was garbage last night. But Cas were also and a team he should be looking to make a mark against. I'm by no means writing him off. I do like the lad and last year I thought he was one of very few shining lights in an awful team. Just don't think he's kicked on at all this year. But I love his attitude with stuff like his off season training abroad. I do wonder if he's lost a little too much weight which may have made him more mobile, but a lot of his good stuff last year was built off his strength and ability to drive defender back. Just feel that at this moment and over the next month or so he needs to show he can reach his potential, otherwise I would seriously be looking if their are any electric, pacy 9s available for next season. given our problem since the Asiata injury why not give him a go at 13

Re eseh I think wigan are just after a fee
This. I wonder if we could sign him December this year and Wigan would release/loan him back for 2026. All the noise is hes enjoying it here and the club want to keep him. I've just posted a response to Ellam who commented very similar i personally dont think Wigan would do that, and dont think we've invoked the extra year just to get a transfer fee Eseh is only 21 and has masses of potential. I think Wigan signed him on that basis. We've had both Byrne and Hill sign for Wire and Hull respectively and both integral to our squad this year, so i would be surprised if we said we wanted to keep Eseh, and then let him go on loan for the season IMO, the only reason we would do that is if his attitude at Wigan isnt right, but its clear from the outside that Cartwright is getting something out of him at Hull, so he's clearly enjoying being there. We need to make sure he feels the same at Wigan, and i see a long term contract to keep him at Wigan, but equally Hull could offer him a similar / better deal with more 1st team rugby and he may move on. The joys of the salary cap and balancing a squad, glad i'm not a chief executive It's a tricky business, especially for a club like Wigan that produce so many players. I imagine it's gotten even trickier with the change in the tampering deadline.

| Dave K.:Jake the Peg:UllFC:Seeing a few Saints fans comment on social media that Batchelor is always injured He is. I saw some comments saying were mad giving him a 3 year deal. It's worked out OK with abdul, holmes, watts and cartwr8ght jr though so worth the risk Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, we got told by fans that Cust, Sezer and Knight wouldn't play many games as they had had injuries in the past, two of those have played every game. Sometimes a change in club helps too. I've the club are really looking at training pitches next year and they could be an announcement too. I think as a replacement for Lane and non quota Batchelor is worth the risk, in todays game, 1, 2 or 3 years don't really make that much difference either. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but signing too many players with bad injury records likely means you will have a few out regularly as we've seen this season which impacts your chances of challenging near the top. If our main 2nd row options next year are batchelor, cartwright and bell, my guess is only 1 of those will play in more than half the games. Let's hope bailey is a star in the making

I imagine it's gotten even trickier with the change in the tampering deadline. I actually like the change in the deadline as its sort of forced clubs to look at their recruitment / retention much earlier, and gives players opportunity to negotiate for their futures sooner too, which IMO is the key part of it. As we've seen this year, Wigan offered contracts to both Byrne and Hill, and they have chosen to move on. I dont have any inside knowledge about details, but you would think that financially both players may have been offered a better deal than Wigan put on the table given they are both squad type players, as opposed to nailed on starters, and the lure of 1st team rugby elsewhere could have been a big sway. Like you say, its a tricky business but the beauty of producing your own players is that they are initially cheaper to manage on the cap, but when it comes to contract negotiations, they are in a good place if they have got 1st team experience under their belts. With both Byrne and Hill this year, Wire and Hull are getting good players with a decent amount of 1st team experience, but luckily for Wigan we have 2-3 more youngsters coming through who can fulfil the role within a squad over the next couple of seasons when we have injuries to our prop rotation, so utilising the loan system and the odd game in the 1st team gets them ready for becoming a regular squad member

| You keep mentioning Bell, but he has an excellent injury record, apart from this year.
Bell, Hardraker, Bailey and Chamberlain isn't too bad anyway. Add Kirby in too.
We've signed 4 players, only one is injury probe and he probably the best British backrower to move clubs, worth the risk IMO.
Definitely need another prop and I'd like another outside back too.

I was meaning bell will be the only one likely to play regularly out of him, cartwright and batchelor. Batchelor's issues aren't just this season. 3 years is too long IMO for a player already struggling to get on the field regularly. We can play kids and makeshift back rowers but will be in the same position we are now, lacking in much threat out wide.
