Hmm. Why the fear from other clubs? Could we descend into what football is like if this were to happen?
Would have been great if Dr.Koukash were to bring a current NRL superstar of the likes of SBW or Shauny Johnson.

Why? Because a race horse owner reckons that SBW would add 5k to the average gate? Not at Salford it wouldn't.
If clubs want to spend cash on a marquee player then let them, but I still say that in the case of Super League, remove the cap altogether and make the punishment for administration/financial irregularities, demotion to the lowest tier possible.
Then Let @mar buy SBW, and when he's still on 5k averages and decided to walk, Salford go into the Championship 2 ranks......not ideal, but it would separate the men from the boys.
Perversely BTW, the marquee signing rule may well have worked in London...I say MAY. Slater or Inglis would assuredly add a few K to our gates first up......it's what the club would do to encourage these people back that worries me.

| The Marque ruling would only suit the top clubs, as the money to make marque signings is simply not there at many clclubs. Ironically although London are not a top club they would benefit from a top name Rugby Union signing as those players are fully in the public domain.
I'd settle for Sam Burgess on loan till he moves to Bath. But other ways of building a following behind the club are needed. The club brand needs to be developed, and AK will have to take the bold step of deciding wether the revenue streams go to him or into running the Broncos in future. As a fan I want my £ going to the LBs sooner rather than later. Some might argue this is already happening in a roundabout way.
As for the good Doctor, he says lots but backs up his words with actions. He is like a breath of fresh air to Rugby. Marwan is trying gamely to drag the game kicking and screaming into the 21st Century, but the game is not coming! Individuals though are taking note as are the press. Clubs like London should embrace this Guy.

We couldn't afford a gazebo so marquee signings are definitely out.

| Koukash will do anything he can to exploit his position as a rich man to make 'his' Salford one of the top teams in SL. Marquee signings suit him because he knows only a few clubs can do this including Salford with his money. Same with getting rid of the SC. or just increasing it. He knows the weaker financial clubs like ourselves, Cas, Wakey, HKR and Widnes can't compete without risking getting into financial trouble e.g. Bradford. Everyone should understands his motives and if the rest of SL give in then SL in this country is going to be an even more elitist Leauge than it is now.

I think he's excellent, and I hate the idea of the weak clubs dragging down the rich and successful ones. It doesn't help the sport.

| All this would do - in my eyes - would be to drive wage inflation and lead to clubs over-paying a select group of players.
A club of our stature would not be able to recruit a genuine marquee player for the NRL any more. We are unable to afford it even if we could. It only accentuates the gap between the have and have nots; I understand what Koukash is trying to do, but he has to understand the Salary Cap is there for a reason and it is meant to keep a league stable and competetive.
I think it's a bad idea and I'm glad we vetoed it.

| Agree completely with Pingwing on this issue.
On a side issue, what has become of the overseas quota and trying to bring British talent through? (I noted from last week's programme that 10 of Salfords first 17, were born in NZ or Aus. That's a bit disappointing from a club that's been in existence for 100 years, imo).
We should find better ways of rewarding clubs that are making genuine efforts with their youth system (maybe sal cap exemptions for up and coming British stars?) Or do they do that already?
