| A stupid and contrived idea. Typical of Australians with no idea about international sport. Hopefully the Kiwis tell them where to shove it. Origin is a massive problem for the game as it is.

Easy to answer
It works
It is always well attended
It carries high premium advertising rates
It has a high audience viewing figures
It takes up loads of media attention.
QED it is a SUCCESS!!!!
This is RL and we don't need that kind of thing in this game!
Damn Aussies

It's damaging to international rugby league as the Aussies consider it more important than IRL which is ridiculous.
For the record, I don't mind the idea of NZ vs PI. Unlike SoO, it isn't damaging to IRL, because one team is already a national side, and one is a select side of a group of national teams. It would hopefully increase the chances of players picking to play for one of their home countries (and PI) rather than picking Aus so they can play SoO.

NZ v winners of Pacific Cup. That's the most sensible idea, doesn't involve made-up teams and promotes international RL. But this is Australians we're talking about, so it must be some sort of Origin-style heritage-based contrived competition instead

It works for them so you can't blame them. We need something similar, I am not suggesting Lancs v Yorkshire. But we need some high intensity games.

But it wouldn't be competitive (and probably never will be), so it wouldn't get much interest as an annual competition. The Kiwis would win 3-0 every year.
The money generated from this could help develop RL in the islands at the end of the day. If it is competitive and draws big crowds every year for 3 games in NZ then it could be huge for RL. Their individual nations could play in World Cups still. At the end of the day, the British Isles XIII is a contrived team and that was highly accepted. I really don't see how this is any different.

| Kiwis V Pacific Islanders. Give it the coverage it deserves, and stick it on as a curtain raiser to the State of Origin match. No combined Pacific Island team has a place in rugby league on an high international level. We want to be encouraging each nation to develop their own national side and not use them as feeder teams for the next level.
At this rate were only a few steps away from having them in the Four Nations.

| As I said on the other (funny but derailed) thread, NZRL need to concentrate on their own competition. The 7 Zones that have been set up need to be given time and support to make sure that their own local comps and the National Comp grow. The NRL Toyota cup is packed with Islanders and Kiwis......the NRL should concentrate on their own Australian Youth Development. If the 65% figure is right for non-Australian players in the toyota cup, then it would point to a lack of talent in depth for the Roos in the very near future.......
The Kiwis are the World Cup holders and now the 4 nations champs......if the NRL want to see more Kiwis and Islanders in their comp, I would suggest a second team here would be far more beneficial to the game than an Origin game.
