i am an old fashioned traditionalist and I would love it if we returned to match numbers. I really cant see the logic of squad numbers and what Aussie did this year in the World Cup was totally absurd.

The logic is that you can put the name on the shirt making it easier to market and identify players.

I’m glad Gaskill got 6.

I think Mash is using a bit of psychology on these numbers.

Gaskill is a very laid back confidence player. When he is firing he is one of the most talented players at the club.

He has probably not achieved what he should have in his career because of his discipline away from the field, moved on from a couple of clubs because of his enjoyment of the ale etc.

I think giving him the 6 shirt gives him a bit of a mental boost and hopefully boosts his ego so he sees himself as “the man” rather than the Jack of all Trades.

Never trusted Squad numbers ever since 2012 why Kyle Wood was given the 7 shirt and Tim Smith 20.

I think Smith got the 20 number because that’s generally how many tackles he tended to miss/game.

Think that is a bit Harsh, he defence wasn't that bad. Probably along with Brough MK1 the best SH we have had in the SL era.

Here is a bit of trivia , back in the day before squad numbers and we had proper loose forwards you sometimes saw loose forwards playing in No14 due to superstition. My dad was very proud of the fact that our great loose forward Derek Turner was proud to have No13 on his shirt.

Yes I've seen that a lot in old programmes

I think Gaskell got 6 because that’s how many injuries he’ll pick up per game. :CURTAIN:

Well if MA intends playing Gaskell at No6 I hope we see a totally different Gaskell to the one who played there last season!
who knows, he might be -he has the talent, but sorry, didn't use it in that position last season!

When I played 6 we were being pretty beaten in the pack.
When he looked good at centre the team was giving him more opportunity.
Let's see how it goes with this pack.
