Anyone know who’s the other 3 clubs are.
This could really impact our chances of a Cat A

From Gledhill page
Further to this tweet IMG said four Super League clubs currently don't spend the full salary cap which is why they will introduce a salary cap floor to ensure all clubs invest in themselves and the sport to give Rugby League and the top tier, the best chance of positive growth.

I’m quite optimistic about this.

I think it will be a very positive move for Trinity in providing an opportunity to secure some stability and certainty.

The issue under the old system was facilities.

We have or are addressing that now.

We have elite Academy Status.

We are not as a club losing money hand over fist.

We have survived in SL as a viable entity for 20 odd uninterrupted years.

Attendances could be an issue however but I think on the face of it and not knowing the criteria we now look a decent prospect.

I’m not saying that we will be a Cat A club, but I expect there is a good case for us being a solid Cat B club.

I’d say Cas for example have much more to worry about.

We also need to now on top of the criteria what the league looks like. I cannot see it reducing under the new system but I could see it growing by 2 depending on the situation with the next broadcasting deal.

Looking on social media today everyone is as usual having s meltdown about it.

Just under 19000 responses to the survey.

I do wonder how many of the people kicking off about the proposals were part of the 19000 that participated by completing and returning it.

I completed the survey

Because the article is about a return to licensing and this was the last time licensing was used and those were the clubs that were fighting it out for a place at the SL table.

We got very lucky that time around.

Let’s hope (and I don’t think it will) that it comes down to luck this time around.

Below is a paragraph from BBC sports page. Are we going to see some clubs fast tracked again at the expense of established clubs, and will Geographical areas come back into play, eg Leeds, Trinity, Tigers and Giants within a fairly small area. I feel a sense of Deja Vu

IMG have targeted London as a high priority for expansion. They say a club in the capital is vital. But that has been tried so often before without anyone ever able to ensure sustained success.

One thing that concerns me.

How if we assume cat B clubs in the top league will be about 6-8 clubs would those clubs be able to offer contracts to players longer than 12 months…. When one or even more could be at risk of being dropped from the league regardless of where they finish?

Players will naturally want to migrate to Cat A clubs as they 100% know that their contract is secure.

How can the category B clubs plan long term when their potentially on the chopping block every season regardless of finishing positions.

Scenario… wakey sign Murphy/Hall/Whitbread on 3/4 year deals.wakey finish 8th next season. Wakefield get graded category B and get placed in the second league.

How do the players contracts get handled? Do they simply get terminated? That’s a bit of a stormy situation.

There must be some serious detail and consideration behind these proposals surely. It puts pressure on clubs to improve which I have no issue with but at the same time it won’t be a level playing field when chasing players and signatures even more so than now.

Maybe I’m overthinking it.

Isn’t that the same every year? Players will want to go to the top clubs….if they don’t get that opportunity they sign for the lesser clubs and face the prospect of relegation and void contracts.

Not a surprise to see London hyped as very important, (again) - so best of luck with that one!

I suppose it is to a degree. Presently the only rosk is in performance and finishing bottom. That can happen now for more than one club no matter where they finish. Would be strange to see a team finish 7th and get relegated for example lol.

If that were done for a business I had responsibility for… at club or competition level… I’d be bouncing off the wall and bouncing the consultants out of town!!!

That’s seriously poor!!!

AT LAST !!! someone has come along and seen what this is all about. I have previously described this report as a first year under graduate project and a bad one at that. I am with you, if I had paid for this or even got this for free and someone had put this pathetic rubbish on my desk I would have booted them out of the building. This report is so bad and and so amateurish , I am amazed at the amount of people that are even discussing its merits, it has no credibibily whatsoever. The sheer fact that our so called sport is giving these IMG clowns any type of credence shows the level RL has sunk.
