No it’s not but it doesn’t change the dynamics. Whitbread was not a proven player and neither is Atoni. I wouldn’t call them project players but they are not off the shelf ready to go either. Both need to develop just like the English players.

Atoni isn’t Whitbread and doesn’t show any of the promise that Whitbread did even in those early days.

Atoni has the potential to become the next Jarrod Hickey or Brent Todd, terrible scouting by the club/Applegarth to sign him

I'm pretty unhappy with alot if things at the moment but even I have to defend the club on Atoni.

On paper and judging him by his previous record in the NRL he was a bloody coup for the club.

There are obviously concerns with his performances since he arrived but I still have hope.

On paper, he made just 40 odd appearances in 3 years for a bottom of the table Canterbury Bulldogs

If that’s what it takes to impress our Coach and CEO then we have our answer regards competence or rather incompetence in judging and recruiting players. Based on that they’ve thrown a decent amount of budget at a player without any real substance to their understanding of how suitable or good he is. Flown him half way around the world, probably with return flights costed in, and are paying for his accommodation.

I have zero concerns about his performances so far, he’s not good enough!

40 apparences over 3 years in the NRL is plenty for me irrespective of what position the team finished. The NRL is streets ahead of Super League. The difference in quality is honest night and day. Don't forget he'll have also played reserve rugby over thier too.

His performances when he arrived would be a complete unknown. I don't understand how the club can be accountable for that?

As I say there is lots I'd agree with you on. But cannot agree that Atoni was anything other than good on paper.
