| Quote apollosghost="apollosghost"Even with my cherry and white glasses on Liam Farrell would've been the only Wigan player to start for England, Bateman's been solid for Wigan but nowhere near his levels before his stint in the NRL.
Marshall as injury cover in the three quarters wouldn't have been unreasonable.
Once again the lack of competition in the halves and three quarters in SL is laid bare with that squad selection.'"

I'm surprised that Gildart wasn't in the squad once Percival dropped out.
Obviously out of his depth in the NRL but still far better than say Bateman at centre.

| Neither are ideal but I'd pick Bateman at centre over Gildart every time if having to choose. Gildart hopelessly out of his depth in the NRL last year.

I’m not surprised as I haven’t seen him have a good game in years, SL or NRL.
Bateman over Gildart every time for me.

| Think we've got away with one, starting the season off by getting hammered by Penrith would be a real downer, playing a different sport that lot

Yes mate, his defence was a huge issue that was being targeted, hence spending most of the year playing reserve grade.
I still stand by Welsby playing centre as being our best fit with the current squad, i have no idea why we didn't fit wardle in? He even played in the game vs. combined nations when percival was injured. At least we would have had 2 specialist centres then with cover from other players.

I’m not sure he is a direct replacement. My understanding is that we couldn’t get the one we wanted so he’s more of a stop gap. We were in big for Murphy but Wakey wouldn’t sell. He’s out of contract next year though….
With Hopoate being made of biscuits then I think Ritson will get some game time as Bennison will need to play FB. It’s also a low risk deal. If he steps up we sign him permanently and if he doesn’t then he goes back to Barrow with nothing lost.
He’s absolutely rapid and can certainly finish but it’s a big step up to SL. One thing we lack is sheer pace and he has that in abundance.
Saying that we’ve done ok with Walmsley, Batchelor and Bentley that were all signed from the Championship.

Saints completely lack pace apart from maybe Welsby(?) so should be a good signing for you. As you have said, you have done well in the past with championship signings
