New Players : Tue Jul 30, 2024 10:32 am
I assume with only 3 days to go before the transfer window grinds to an unexciting close, we won't be bringing anyone else in.

Sorry if the subject title got you excited BT.

It did! I had not even considered new players for this year but it would be good if we got a few for next year. We have been remarkably relaxed about signing players over the last few seasons. We will need a few in if we are go8ngvto be top 3 championship side next year.

You may recall in one of his interviews earlier in the season he said he wanted to re-sign most of the current squad but went on to say he didn't think he would be able too.

It is as certain as it can be that they will be relegated having done little if anything to prevent themselves from finishing bottom & giving IMG any sort of decision to make. Not signing up players is just another mystery of the Bermuda Broncos Triangle.

I’d assumed Kershaw, Rourke and possibly Storey out to another Championship or low end SL team situated in the North. The rest I’d assumed would probably stay in London but Meadows surprise move to Bradford has thrown everything up in the air and if I recall a couple of sides Hull Kr , Salford and Trinity took a bit of a punt on a few of our players last time we got relegated, who you wouldn’t automatically have assumed would get tapped up. I don’t think many have done anything like as much to impress this time out but who knows. Bottom line one assumes we’ll start the season with a smaller squad than this- if our current direction of travel is an indicator.

Boafo is almost like a new player. Give him a run Cake, we're losing anyway but would be nice to see some pace.

We seem to have been doing this since at least 2017.

Then another couple of years & we'll be back to when Roy Close found the club was just 2 sets of goal posts & some shirts.

Further to this I see from the post match interview with David Hughes he still harbours hopes of retaking SL status. I have no hotline to what IMG are planning but I can’t see that happening in a million years so, I fear, all that type of thinking will do is distract from the job at hand of getting a strong Championship side together.

Don’t know if you’ve seen the you tube longer interview with Eccles but it makes grim viewing on the recruitment/retention front. Clearly a lot of uncertainty and basically another season where we dont have a structured recruitment prior to season’s start seems to be on the cards.

Indeed BT, it doesn't sound great & throws even more light on the shambles IMG & the RFL have made of things. Can't see how the game can progress with such amateurs in control.

Wish Cake didn't say "mate" so much, it does grate.
