Concerts at Stadiums : Tue Sep 17, 2024 10:54 am
I see Coldplay are playing at Craven Park in 2025, we've had gigs at Robin Park Arena - Wigan and I'm sure Widnes hosted a concert at some point. I'm guessing there is some planning condition in place that states concerts are not permitted at the HJ? LSV has houses nearby and Vicky Park plays host to Neighbourhood Weekender most years with plenty of surrounding homes, seems a shame to be missing out on what potentially could be a real money spinner given SJM's contacts. Perfect location in some ways close to transport links etc....

We saw enough dirge on the pitch with Powell without inviting Coldplay on there.

i was of the understanding that the gigs aspect of it, was a part of the planning permission, ie no gigs, to appease the watkin street residents association (and others) but when the little mix( i think) gigs were announced at the totally wikkid (wikkid maaan) a few years back Mr Moran got asked why their and not here and he said it came down to space, and arses on seats, cost the same in terms of rigging their stadium out but could get more people in for more prrrrofit.

That being said, having seen what gigs have done to saints pitch, huddersfields pitch and KR's in the past (think that was boxing actually) i'm happy to give it a swerve.

koucash came on the pitch waving a giant cheque for a million quid that started it off, not a good day for rugby league

We'll still be benefitting indirectly of course, with SJM owning the majority of the club, but with another big loss in the last financial year (-£1.8m), it's a shame we can't generate some benefit from SJM links - I'm sure pitch issues could be resolved, planning issues less so!

SJM are putting Oasis on in the concourse of the West Stand for the London game. Kids for a quid*.

To be fair KR aren't 'behind the door and there's a bus full from a pub in Eccles that will have been on it all day, plenty of goading, ale and tension not a great mix
