We would definitely get the leadership we need off McGuire, but it depends how he fares with the Superleague Disciplinary Committee.

There is no value in having a team captain who is suspended for a lot of games.

Does McGuire have a particularly bad disciplinary record? Genuine question, as I don't often get to see NRL games.

It looks promising regarding maguire at this stage but he has only been here for 2 weeks. If Powell wants the leadership group to emerge naturally then surely he has to wait a bit longer or at least let the whole squad come together before deciding.
I'm beginning to feel the positive vibes growing for the season. To be honest the Captaincy bit does not worry me one jot. You do not need to be Captain to have influence.

He did have issues in the NRL with getting a few suspensions over there, but so did Adrian Morley, who came to Wire and managed to adjust his game, to avoid the suspensions.

Same here. Maguire is making the right noises and key was getting Drinkwater to glue the parts together. Hopefully some younger players will really step up in the backs as theyr'll be surrounded by plenty of protection and experience with our monster pack and pivots.

I really don't want him to give it Ratchford. It's bad enough that hes going to be our starting centre this season. With the squad overhaul and freshness brought in this season it's only right that we pull away from the old guard and give it to Maguire, who, has been there and done it.
Yep let's have a proven winner as captain. A suitable candidate who has been in a league title winning side.

He was offered captaincy as part of his deal.
The talk is just a smoke screen.
At this stage I don’t know if it’s solo, or with Ratchford.
Whilst I think most professional teams these days depend on a senior group to collectively provide the leadership, we have still lacked a true captain for quite a while. Chris Hill was undoubtably a quality prop but I don't think he was what we needed in the captaincy role. Powell has said that he was going to wait before deciding on a captain and I think that is a clever move. He will see during pre-season who is providing the guidance and leadership during the informal training, but yes, Josh McGuire does look a good possibility. Would Williams be another ? I don't think I would pick Ratchford or Currie and don't know enough about our other new recruits.
It shouldn't be Ratchford for the sole reason that the captain should at least be a guaranteed name in the starting 13.
I'd agree with McGuire.
