Quote Wires71="Wires71"Exactly, when Woolf took over from Holbrook, did he need time to gel with his back room team and work out combinations and build a rapport with the players, time to establish a philosophy? No, just got on with it and won 3 SL titles in a row.'"
There's a nugget of evidence of last season's problems on the new video of pre-season training just released from the club. It's another of Daryl's 'Welcome Briefings' addressing the players ahead of pre-season.
I quote:
[i"Leaders? We'll decide later. I won't pick a leadership group at the start, I'll see how this rolls fellas. I want you boys to get after it. Leaders that stand out, we'll talk about that as we roll through the pre-season"[/i
This is encouraging. We've had a big turnover of players and we get rid of the loyalty talk. The new players have been thrown the gauntlet to go out and earn a place in the leadership group. No risk of a group of senior players pushing back against the new ways of doing things, and influencing the more junior members of the squad. I hope this means we finally get to see the Powell stamp on this team.
The player I'm most looking forward to is McGuire. He seems to be just the sort of character we've been lacking for a few years. He's a horrible player on the pitch, and opposition players and fans will hate him. However, off the pitch he talks like the ultimate professional. He's from a military family, sounds positive about everything he does, and from what we've seen in the NRL he never takes a backward step. He's like a more eloquent Benny Westwood.
