Leigh Centurions Make It Into Super League A place in Super League 2023 was the prize as massive favourites Leigh Centurions took on massive underdogs Batley Bulldogs at the Leigh Sports Village in the final game of the domestic calendar. Batley sprang an enormous surprise last weekend when they eliminated the Featherstone Rovers to take their place in the Million Pound Game, but if they were a long shot last week, this week the target was beyond the vision of mortal men. Firstly well done, thoroughly well deserved. But did I enjoy it? Only whilst Batley had that backs to the walls mentality and keeping it a contest. After that, not really. I don't think we should be ok as a sport with promotion to the top flight being a foregone conclusion.

First of all, well done Leigh.
This has looked nailed on since they beat Fev so comfortably in the 1895 cup final and well done to Batley for making the final, with a part time squad, a huge achievement.
The seemingly unlimited spending of Leigh did make something of a mockery of the comp but, no rules were broken and good luck to them back in the big time.

Probably a good summary of the issues with the sport currently. Leigh won it because they sport significantly more on overseas players than any other club. Half of those now cannot move up to Super League with them because of the rules in place. That seems daft to me. If they want to have a competitive squad, let them.

Hopefully Leigh come up and are competitive and add to their crowds. We don't need another 3,000 average club, they should be up around the 7-8,000 mark and the only way they can do that is by being competitive. Hopefully Derek spends a much time on how to get people through the door and the community engaged as he does on moaning this time.
