Good tough encounter as we expected with the result in the balance right up to the last play and I personally was much more nervous during the game than for a long time after all the emphasis in getting off to a good start in the build up.

Things to work on. From my seat we were a fair bit below last seasons standards in both goal line defence and attack with the ball not going to hands in the red zone on a few occasions but it was only the second fully competitive game in several months so that's understandable.

Little bit of indiscipline cost us in a number of their barge over tries with late tackle count penalties and incorrect play the ball on a simple exit set giving them the field position in the build up was both frustrating and unnecessary.

Positives.
We will improve week on week so to get the points when not at our best should bode well.
During the game there were some big shots in D in the middle and we looked fit and physical more than matching their pack when needed, our attack showed some real threat on the edge at times with some good quality tries in and among.

Delighted and relieved in equal amounts with the result, PHEW!!!

Salty indeed.

Me personally i like there to be a bit of rivalry between sides it makes for a better game. But he is completely blinded to anything the opposition do well in games. He gives us no credit what so ever for winning that game which makes him look bad.

As for the game i thought for about the first 30 minutes we did most things pretty well. We was making good meters with the ball going through the middle and earning the right to go wide and both our defence and discipline was good and we took our try's well but the kicking game wasn't the best i would like to see louis and young ingham take some of the pressure off joe with the kicking game. 16 points up them down a man in the bin and i thought we would kick on from there and then we either started to feel the pace or we took our foot off the gas plus sheffield are a good side so they would always have there say in the match. We all of a sudden looked disjointed in attack with players getting in each others way and we lost a lot of go forward which put us under a fair bit of pressure. I was very worried at the end that we would lose so to get the interception and score the clinching try was a big relief. All in all happy to get the 2 points but we will need to go up a fair few gears if we are to win on sunday.

It would be interesting to see if he is like this on every (close) game they lose as it seems to be a common theme with Halifax. You can sense an almost hatred, in the way he cannot even bear to say our name – always say “them, they”. Seems have been this way since the Sam Barlow incident, what some 13 years ago now? If only he could be more balanced, lets face it decisions generally go both ways, there were some poor ones against us and some where I thought we got the rub. The knock on one by Welham did appear a bit fortunate for us, but I’d assumed Ref called him for playing the ball when he wasn’t tackled, be interesting to watch that one back.

Doesnt appear to understand irony - Aston apologising for his team going off in a strop after losing without acknowledging their fans. This from a man who goes into a massive sulk every time his team lose , especially against Halifax - obviously his team take their lead from him.
